This form of assessment can be used to identify the strengths of the learner and the areas for improvement for a learner in a particular subject/topic. Diagnostic assessment involves the collection and thoughtful evaluation of data through using the student’s knowledge and understanding in a particular area. The data that is collected is then used to provide help and support for teachers to plan effectively and scaffold the needs of the learner. Crystal City Underground The first stop on my CPR tour was the Crystal City Underground. This awesome cave sits in the heart Crystal City, which is located about 30 miles south of St Louis, MO. Carved into the Mississippi river bluff this cavern was once an active sand mine serving a local glass plant, Pittsburgh Plate Glass factory, with materials for almost a century. In the 1980’s the plant and the mine were closed, allowing water that was pumped out for decades to begin to flood portions of the cave. The recent owners of this cave decided to turn the property into a tourist attraction. They built up area’s for children to explore, adults to play games, a stage for bands to play, a sitting area with large TV’s for sports and other event enjoyment, and barges to take tours on while exploring the depths of vastness this cave has to offer. On the day of my arrival I had the pleasure of experiencing a dark path being well lit with over 400 carved pumpkins along what was pleasantly t itled the Great Pumpkin Walk. Poverty, religion, tradition and conflict make the incidence of child marriage in Sub-Saharan Africa wide spread. In many tribal systems, a man pays a bride price to a girl’s family in order to marry her. Sadly in many parts of Africa, this payment decreases as the girl gets older. Even before puberty, it is common for a married girl to leave her parents to be with her husband. I personally doubt if they are just staying together because they are afraid of the unknown or do they think they’ll never find somebody better? In my opinion you haven’t really experienced life when you go and settle down with somebody you met in High School. In the High School age you are still trying to figure out who you are in life, develop characteristics and are very influential of others. So is it a good idea to decide who you are gonna spend the rest of your life with in a stage of age you are still trying to find yourself? The twenties are dedicated to just you. You go out and travel, explore what you ever dreamt of and live your own life. Of course it is always challenging to be single and go on dates. No doubt about that! But being single and not â€Å"tied down† offer you experiences which enlarge your personal horizon immense. The kinds of different people you meet and experiences you’ll have, if bad or good, will help you figure out who you are and what you want in life and certainly in a relationship. The biggest fear I had if I were married with 21 is what happens if you get divorced. You don’t know a life without the person you met as a teenager and probably can’t imagine anything like that. My personal conviction of not getting married at an early age doesn’t result of that, but it’s definitely scary to devote yourself to somebody in an age where you haven’t explored yourself. I’m personally convinced that I’ll find the right person to marry after intensely living my twenties. And that doesn’t mean that I just want to sleep around 😉 I hope by that time I’ll definitely know what to expect from my partner and be mature enough to decide who is the right one for me. Kevin Bales is the author of Ending Slavery and Disposable People, both from UC Press. He is also Co-Founder of Free the Slaves, Washington DC, and Professor of Contemporary Slavery at the Wilberforce Institute for the Study of Slavery and Emancipation at the University of Hull. He is the worlds leading expert on contemporary slavery. Ron Soodalter, historian, folklorist, and lecturer, is the author of Hanging Captain Gordon: The Life and Trial of an American Slave Trader, as well as articles on the historic and modern slave trade, the Civil War, and the American West. A respected Lincolnian scholar, he serves on the Board of the Abraham Lincoln Institute. The book was written to expose human trafficking in the United States. It details how the victims are everywhere we go from restaurants serving as cooks and dishwashers to the people working in our own houses. He has been involved in the fight to end modern day slavery since 2003 when he became the Goodwill Ambassador for the organization Face to Face Bulgaria, which works to combat trafficking. Michael wrote, directed and produced the award-winning film Svetlana’s Journey, a true story about a Bulgarian girl forced into prostitution. In this article the author talks about trafficking in the U. S. A and how the captors lure their victims and get them to come with them with a lot of promises about their future. He also details the torture they endure and how they are held captive and exploited. He points out that it largely happens here and the reasons why it happens and the people involved especially the wealthy, educated and trusted people in society. The author argues that the United States government offers too many incentives to human traffickers and states that support them in order to market humans and promises too little action against the trafficking. He states that most government officials cooperate with traffickers and are afforded a high pay due to the high profits of the trade. Kiener’s purpose is to inform the general audience about the ongoing battle to stop human trafficking and slavery. The author talks about the struggles people are facing with forced prostitution and forced labor in many countries around the world including western countries. He talks about how the laws put forward to protect the people are not strong enough and a lot of countries are not following the laws or trying to abolish the social crimes. He talks about the few laws which have been set forth but do not have stiffer penalties when broken. He also informs us about the 32 billion dollar industry and that â€Å"the biggest obstacle to halting the trade in human beings is the lack of political will† (CQ). This article is very important and basically the foundation of my research. It explains all about human trafficking and slavery and gives accounts of the problems facing abolishment of these social crimes.
